I feel very fortunate to live amongst some of the best scenery in the country - art is easy when you’re surrounded by inspiration. I try to walk down to this creek at least a couple times a week, just to get some steps in and maybe snap some pictures of a bird or some other creatures - When the leaves were turning colors a couple weeks ago, I snapped a picture of this lone red-leaved tree, possibly a quaking aspen, hanging out over the creek by a fallen log crossing because I thought it would make a good sketch. Normally I draw in graphite because I’m not particularly good with colors, but while out shopping for kids halloween costumes, I popped over to the big box art store and picked up some pastel crayons. I thought I was getting oil pastels but these turned out to be the dry ones. It was a fun challenge to figure out a way to use them. Anyway here is my first attempt. I hope to do more soon. Thanks for reading - and happy painting!
